Samurai Didn't Fight with Two Short (or Long) Katana ...But What If They Did?
Просмотров 13 тыс.22 часа назад
When it comes to Nitōryu, dual-wielding, it almost always fights with a long Uchi-katana and a shorter wakizashi. But does that mean fighting with two katana of the same length is weak? Let’s find out. So today, Seki sensei, the 22nd headmaster of Kobudo Asayama Ichiden Ryu with 400 years of history, will experiment what you could do with two Wakizashi and two Uchi-katana. Fighting with two Uch...

So today, Seki sensei, the 22nd headmaster of Kobudo Asayama Ichiden Ryu, with 400 years of history, will introduce 4 Kata in which we intentionally lose balance to fight efficiently. The footwork in the...

Depends on the rapier, but they tend to be very stiff, so can parry sabres, sideswords and longswords, also depends on the rapier, but the can usually cut, but it tends to be quick shallow cuts from wrist movement.
Uses it pretty similarly to how a european fencer would
The poor assistant spending every lesson getting his knuckles banged on. 😂
Here after reversed blade from elden ring sote
“Let’s ask Seki Sensei” the channel that did the katana master’s feeling on european long sword. They have a video on how to draw a 5 foot sword.
I think I speak for most of your viewers when I say I believe that we'd very much like to see Seki Sensei's reflections on the video responses from western swordsman on the subject of this video. Both scholagladiatoria and Skallagrim did so and we'd love to hear sensei's thoughts.
Заберите у женщины меч ...
I've said it before but the engineering in these kata is just so well thought out lol ❤
Now that Seki Sensei is going global, please get in contact with Matt Easton from Scholagladiatoria for a possible meetup in the future. So many of us would love to see Seki Sensei get hands-on experience with HEMA from a real authority like Matt.
The Shunjo techniques are soooo awesome, sensei please make more from these videos 🙏
I think this channel get shadow banned for whatever reasons. The view and comments are low 😢
These techniques make my day better 🗿👍
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Uussshhh
Doesn't this assume you will be faster than an opponent who moves first? That's rarely the case
Are you planning on traveling to europe to? If so could you do it in the netherlands we speak pretty good english thanks due our own language
Make sure your Sensei try a Cuban Sandwich when you are Miami!
Wow, I love the intricate left hand movements throughout this kata 😮
This one is for men This one is for women Based Japan, please never change.
I enjoyed this very much thank you for the video
yay cant wait
This looks similar to the first Iai Kata: Ippon me Mae
Hope everything goes well and I hope Seki-sensei enjoys seeing the US
In an attempt to answer some questions the bit about the guard of the longsword being aligned with the blade has a few benefits, firstly at the start of the parrying section he notes how stable holding the opponents blade is, the cross guard is designed to catch the opponents blade and make it as easy as possible to use it to your advantage, for other techniques it does rely a little on positioning and the back and forth a duel can have, it doesn't get in the way while attacking in any motion and gets in the way as much as possible in defencive stances or blocks, etc. Somewhere in that video when he was trying out parries his stance is very reminiscent to the fools guard stance, holding your sword low tricks the enemy into thinking you are more open then you really are, allowing for easy parries and counterattacks. He also found Ox guard which another commenter pointed out. Lastly i wanted to mention holding the longsword, it has a lot of difference from the katana and at some point he does say he feels like he would want to hold it in a certain way. In many of the openings he used in the longsword v katana section of the video he uses a grip, again, similar to thumb grip where you hold the sword "sideways". it is a very valid use of the sword and one i am surprised he actually found out! there is also positioning, the way he wanted to hold the longsword in high guard and a comment he made about swining the blade around at the end of the Parried section is pretty much just German longsword techniques, if he ever looks at longsword again i think he would really like techniques like Zwerchhau which involves lots of high guard stances and attacks. Overall this was incredible to watch. Do not take me as an expert but ive done my best with what knowledge i have on swords and techniques if i had made mistakes myself please tell me
Please come to Raleigh North Carolina
Gratitude Honorable Teacher
Musashi might disagree.
THIS GOING TO BE EPIC!
Seki sensei world tour. This is great.
i cannot speak to the modern preservation/ recreation of european swordfighting, but in actual combat, there very much indeed were attacks aimed at an opponent's legs. i also don't know how common low attacks were in 1 v 1 duels, but in actual military formations (such as the phalanx shield wall,) attacks were often alternating between high and low.
..... did you get wagaki band to contribute to your opening?
That's basically in my back yard, I have to go!
it is really cool seeing people who train to master their own weapon try to apply that knowledge to other weapons to see what translates. a good unique perspective I do feel he underutilized the most powerful part of the longsword though which is it's double sided blade. Being a Kendo master probably might take some time to fully grasp the idea that you can twist your sword in mid clash to the otherside of the blade but that flexibility lets you wind around people with just one edge really nicely, makes for a very jack of all trades sort of sword when in a clash. I know from my 2 years of HEMA training I did a few mock rounds with other novice kendo students and they struggled against the sweeping range winding. Probably just need some training to know how to counter against it rather then another kendo user Love this though, awesome stuff. He showed off some techniques I've never seen with the longsword. Now show him flipping the sword over and using the big cross guard as a warpick to fight heavy armor lol
UNBELIEVABLE ❤❤❤❤ YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST 🎉🎉🎉🎉 SO MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT 😢SORRY YOU CANT MAKE IT
Gambatte! I do know about the efforts to host Japanese instructors; I have been part of Naginata, Jodo, Iaijutsu & Kenjutsu efforts over the years! Even hosting instructors from other parts of the US is a lot of work. My only comment is that the members of the host's organization fully support the effort as this effort is too big, & too important, for a single individual to handle! Unfortunately, I anticipate a significant personal schedule conflict with the proposed dates; otherwise, I would have most likely planned to attend.
Just wait until he realizes that you can bash with the pommel and use the guard to hook your opponent or their weapon if you're in clinch didtance
Kata looks so much like an art, but the technique is devestating.
Spot on, Rapier comes in 2 main styles italian, which is very linear moving forward and back, focusing on thrusts and a spanish style that tends to be more flashy with side movement and utilizes slashes more often. I train in the basket hilt broadsword, and I've fought rapiers many times. Their speed is unmatched, and with good footwork, you'll most likely lose in a duel with one regardless of the weapon you use. Also I'm pretty sure the sword you guys were using is a smallsword not a rapier. A true rapier would be a bit longer.
Thank you
Hope to see you in Vancouver.
Thank you.
Gratitude
Cool techniques, but Elden ring taught me i should wield it one handed and use a 50kg stone fingerprint shield in the other, drumpfs any other techniques with ease
Need a Texas visit someday!
I am not able to travel anywhere but I am seriously consider on joining Asayama Ichiden Ryu, hopefully you’ll be able to see me in the following future as a student of your style Seki Sensei!
Masterful, as ever :-)

Welcome to America in advance! Might it be a good idea to try and do one of the 'Seki sensei tried a foreign weapon' videos while overseas? As I recall some trainers are hard to get according to the rapier video.
Maestro, mi consenta di dirle che lei ha raggiunto la perfezione. Con ammirazione e profonda stima. Paola
